3.) Information items presented:

   a.)  Anne Turner – Leslie Davis introduced Anne Turner one of our new Geology Instructors

   b.) Upcoming Clicker Workshops – It was announced that a clicker workshop would be held February 8,

         2008.  The location would be at NRG in room 2213 at 1:30 pm for just our department.  And a morning

         session for everyone else.

   c.)  Updated Faculty Input form deadlines - Paul Williams announced that the faculty input form deadlines 

         were February 11, 2008 for Adjuncts Faculty and March 3, 2008 for Fulltime Faculty.

   d.)  Summer Estaffing Update – Paul Williams announce the deadline for Estaffing for faculty

         that are Highest Priority would be February 1, 2008 and that Regular faculty would start Estaffing

         February 8, 2008.

   e.)  Update on Donald Witt – George Staff informed everyone in the meeting that Donald Witt, one of our

         Physics instructor had been ill for quite sometime and that he would be in hospital till the summer. 

         George also shared information on where Donald was located and some of the things he would like while he was in the hospital.

   f.)   FT Faculty Names need to be submitted to the Dean for the Fall 08 Schedule by February 25

   g.)   College Aerospace Scholars   George Staff asked if anyone was interested in volunteering for the

          College Aerospace Scholars this year on April 24 – 26, 2008.  Saad Eways volunteered.

   h.)   Textbook Cost Committee – There was a brief discussion on textbook cost.  Elliot Richmond volunteered to serve on the college committee looking into textbook costs

    i.)    Faculty Handbook - Ron Johns mentioned the that Faculty Handbook needed to be updated and a color needed to be chosen for the cover

                                    Upcoming Physics Meetings/Workshops

                                    Paul Williams passed out a sheet with upcoming Physics meetings and workshops to everyone.  Paul also mentioned that if anyone was planning on attending any of these   meetings or workshops, that they would have to pay on their own because there was no travel budget available at this point.   Some of these meetings and workshops are as follow:

                                    Review of Master Syllabi

                                    Everyone took time to look over the Master Syllabi for each course and made changes.

 

                                    EEO Assessment

                                    Paul Williams reviewed the assessment rubics in department website and stressed that we would be doing it this semester.

 

                                    Discussion on Wilson Buffa Lou Textbook

                                    There was a discussion to change the Wilson Buffa Lou Textbook that is being used for PHYS 1401 and PHYS 1402.   It was agreed that we would keep the textbook one more year.

 

                                    Hiring for Summer

                                    It was decided that Summer Hiring would start in the beginning of March 2008

 

                                    Reconstituting the Standards Committee

                                    It was decided that the Standard Committee would be formed again.  It was also charged to only focus on PHYS 1405.    The following faculty will serve on the committee.  Jeff Bechtold (Chair) Chris Cavalli, James Heath, Hadi Parhikhteh, Karl Trappe, Saad Eways and James Friedrichsen.

 

                                    B-field and Change Sensors

                                    Richard Mauldin, Physics Lab Tech from the Rio Grande campus showed everyone a

                                    demonstration  on B-field and  charge sensors.
